I was honored to talk to John Cooper (front man and bassist for the rock band Skillet) about his thoughts on deconstruction and his new book Awake & Alive To Truth (see here for link). I also asked John if he stands by his words from a year ago which were directed at those like Joshua Harris and Marty Sampson, two prominent leaders who were publicly deconstructing. Joshua Harris, a former pastor and author of the well-known I Kissed Dating Goodbye was a proponent of “purity culture” and Marty Sampson has been writing songs for Hillsong for many years. John also talks about how to deconstruct “the right way” and how churches need to stop viewing influencers as authorities in the Church.
